Testimonials

"Here at Liverpool FC, we have the capacity to refer any of our injured players to the finest surgeons, anywhere in the world, for expert opinions regarding management and surgery.   For shoulder problems, we need look no further than Liverpool and Mr Peter Brownson.   He has managed and operated upon many of our high profile players over the past 10 years.  His opinions are highly respected and his surgical skills have yielded exceptional results.

It should be noted that the rapid rehabilitation of injured players not only involves the surgical treatment but also the post operative rehabilitation.  In this regard, the support team of physiotherapy staff around Mr Brownson is significant and plays an important part in optimising the outcome following surgery."

"Whilst on holiday in Portugal, I fractured my right shoulder and was taken to the local hospital. The top part of my upper arm bone (head of humerus) had shattered into several pieces. I do not remember this as I also suffered a serious chest infection and was in a coma for 48 hours. After 11 days in the intensive care unit, I was repatriated back to UK on a stretcher and came under the care of Mr Brownson.

There was no way my bone could be repaired so my humerus head needed to be replaced by a metal prosthesis (artificial joint) as soon as possible.  Planning an operation was particularly difficult in my case as I was not well enough to undergo an operation until 3 weeks after the initial accident. This meant that my shoulder joint had become scarred and inflamed. I was told that my shoulder function would be permanently restricted and I would probably not be able to brush my own hair, wipe my own bottom or apply deodorant. this really worried me especially as I am right handed.

After examining me and my X-rays Mr Brownson took a calculated risk, against other medical advice: As I was young, he did not want to use cement to glue the prosthesis in place, but decided to use a different kind of prosthesis which would encourage my own bone to regrow around it and fix the prosthesis in place.

The operation was highly successful. This was due to Mr Brownson's courageous decision, his skill as a surgeon and the post operative physiotherapy and care which he recommended.

Now almost five years on, my shoulder is near-normal. I have a good range of movement in my shoulder joint. I have a full-time job and I lead an independent life. I have a small neat scar.

If it had not been for Mr Brownson, my shoulder movement would be restricted and I would be unable to drive or look after myself. I am forever grateful to Mr Brownson for the decision he took that day and for the work he did to repair my shoulder.    I would thoroughly recommend Mr Brownson as a surgeon for anyone who has a shoulder injury of this sort."

In the last 8 years I had twice had an operation on my shoulder.  In August 2008 I had another accident and once again my shoulder became a problem.

I could not lift my arm above elbow level and was having sleepless nights because of the pain.

My physio advised me to see Mr Brownson, as he had seen and heard good reports on his skills. I made an appointment to see him and from the beginning was impressed. My operation was in September 2008 and was told professionally that most consultants would not have attempted this operation.

I am so delighted with the result, as I have got all my movement backand nearly all my strength. I wish I had heard of Mr Brownson before August 2008.

Speaking with my physio, he said ' we have found a cabinet maker not a carpenter'

I would not hesitate to recommend Mr Brownson to anyone with a shoulder problem.

In the last five years I have had two shoulder operations as a result of a clinically relevant haemoglobinopathy and a road traffic accident.  It was extremely painful and movement was so limited that I had to pick things up at eye level.  I was not sleeping much at night on both occasions.  The results following both shoulder operations have been remarkable.

Peter Brownson's professionalism is unparalleled in the community and as a colleague he made sure the operations went well and I received the appropriate support, more so as I was reluctant to take too much time off work.  I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone requiring a shoulder operation.
