Mr. Peter Brownson
Peter Brownson studied medicine at Liverpool University and qualified as a doctor in 1986. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1991, after which he undertook a period of orthopaedic research at Nottingham University. This research involved impact biomechanics as applied to aircraft passenger safety. It culminated in the submission of his doctoral thesis and the award of an MD. The research also resulted in him being awarded an Honorarium in the Syme Professorship at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the crash brace position proposed, was subsequently, adopted by the Civil Aviation Authority, for use on all passenger aircraft
Medico-Legal
Mr Brownson is available for medico-legal work. Typical medico-legal work includes preparing standard medical reports, medical report, examination of medical records and/or x-rays, court attendance, attendance at legal conferences etc.On a personal level, Mr Brownson has achieved both national and international recognition as being at the forefront of arthroscopic (keyhole) surgical techniques. In recognition of this, he was awarded the Travelling Fellowship of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society in 2002. He is frequently asked to lecture on both trauma and upper limb related courses at both national and international meetings.
His technical skills are highly regarded and as a consequence of this he is regularly asked to carry out live surgical demonstrations of advanced arthroscopic shoulder surgery techniques. Within the last 12 months, he has carried out such demonstrations on shoulder courses in Annecy (France), Naples (Italy), Reading, Manchester and Exeter.
He continues to be actively involved in upper limb research and he has published a number of articles on upper limb related topics. He is the Course Director of the Liverpool Advanced Shoulder Arthroscopy Course which is one of the largest arthroscopic shoulder surgery courses outside of the United States and he is also the Course Director of the AO Liverpool Shoulder and Elbow Trauma Course which was the first course of its type ever to be awarded AO recognition.
He is married with 2 children and his outside interests include heli-skiing, sailing, golf and fly fishing.
